University of Chicago Booth School of Business’ history goes back to 1898, but it wasn’t until 1916 that the school offered masters-level degrees. In 1922, the school (formerly named School of Commerce and Administration) offered the first doctorate program and was renamed the School of Business. In 1935, the school launched its first MBA (Master of Business Administration) program and started concentrating only on graduate programs, and the Executive MBA program was introduced in 1943.

In 1959 the school changed its name to Graduate School of Business until in 2008 the school was renamed again as result of a huge $300 million gift by David G. Booth. Although Chicago Booth’s main campus is in Chicago (Hyde Park), the school also has a Chicago downtown campus and additional campus locations in Europe (London – launched in 1994) and Asia (Singapore launched in 2000, Hong Kong in 2014).

The school requires both full-time and part-time students to take the LEAD (Leadership Effectiveness and Development) course, which focuses on the three key competencies of leadership: inspiring people, developing relationships, and having an influence on outcomes. Furthermore, participants in the school’s full-time MBA program have the option to acquire an International MBA (IMBA).

They can earn this degree by studying in another country as part of an exchange program with foreign business schools.
